About The Book

Active Animals A Thru Z offers a potentially unique and generally lighthearted approach to the idea of exploring the alphabet. The book opens with Ali Alligator and unfolds by identifying a range of animals in a variety of activities or poses. It is a fun way to learn phonics and some sentence structure that emphasizes the way sounds might be combined such as Dudley dog does a dance and Inky inchworm is in ice. Throughout the book you will see a brand of alliteration with images. This book is designed to capture the imagination as well as initiate open-ended question to develop a quest for learning.

About The Author

The author writes:

"My name is Lisa Jo Douglas and I have been blessed to be the author of Active Animals A thru Z.  I would like to share what inspired me to write this book.  As a child, I was shy which led to limited verbal skills, therefore I was removed from a regular classroom 5 hour a week for speech.  My teacher worked with me on phonics, vocabulary and thinking skills.  As time progress, I started asking questions, answering questions and even helping classmates in my regular classroom and that is when my self esteem began to surface.  In sharing this book with our children, my hopes are to add verbal skills, phonic, vocabulary and confidence that will boost their self esteem. It is true, “You must love yourself before you can love anyone else”.

Author Lisa Jo Douglas

 I have worked with children ranging from 2 to 6 years old for over 15 years.  As a young adult, I started out with Tot Lot in Fort Scott, KS.  Later on in life, I moved to Lumberton N.C. with my husband and two sons and continued in that same field ranging from Pre-K, Learning Together, Bible School, Sunday School, STARS (Reading program) and After School care.  I am also blessed to be the illustrator of Active Animals A Thru Z.  Please allow me to share this with all of you.  I had written this book about 2 years ago and was searching for an illustrator.  One morning around 3:00 a.m. the Lord woke me up and I was blessed to draw all of the animals in the book ranging from Ali Alligator to Ziggy Zebra."
